Up to the late 1990s, printing remained largely unchanged and was mainly done with the old offset technique. The costs of starting up a printing business were high and establishing the business was difficult.

With the coming of the digital age, printing has revolutionized to become fast and accurate. It has also become easy to set up your own printing business, with most startups opting to provide their services online.

You can design your content for digital printing using desktop publishing and print using ink or laser printers. Digital printing is not labor intensive. This means that if you have a good computer you can venture into the line of a digital printing business.

With digital press, you will enjoy the benefits below:

  • It’s Fast

If you’re using offset printing, you have to prepare the press before start of printing. This makes the printing process lengthy, repetitious and tiring.

Digital printing does not require preparation. It is fast. You don’t have to worry about deadlines for events or reject any work because it was given to you on short notice. You can print on demand.

  • It’s Cost Conscious

You can only print in bulk when using offset printing due to the cost incurred per unit or printing. This means that if you have a small business, this option will not be suitable for you.

With digital printing, you can print low quantities of work cost efficiently. It will cost you less to print each unit as compared to when you’re using offset printing.

  • It’s Consistent

If you’re trying to build a good reputation for your business, digital printing is the way to go because the quality of work is consistent.

With offset printing, the process of achieving the required consistency of printing ink involves human handling and this will not always give you the results you want. If the ink is tampered with without your knowledge, your print will come out wrong and you’ll end up wasting ink and paper.

  • It’s Customizable

There are instances when you want to send personalized messages such as wedding invitations or mail letters to a mailing list. Due to the variable method used in digital printing, you can change text and print numerous graphics without having to stop the press.

This feature makes digital printing a good medium for marketing and engaging directly with your customers. You can take advantage of this feature by delving into coffee table book printing to showcase the uniqueness of your business via pictures and themes that will communicate about you and your business in an interesting way.

  • Sample Before Printing

Before you do your final print, you can print a few samples to see what the final version will look like. This is possible because with digital printing, you can print a minimum of one copy.

You can then make adjustments to any aspects of the design that may not look good on paper. You therefore do not waste resources printing in mass and then realizing after the fact that the material will be rejected by your customers.

One thing that you mentioned that has me interested is the consistency. I can’t tell you how many times the print comes out with a different color or is faded. I am hoping with digital printing this will put an end to this.

  • It sounds to me like digital printing is a really great way to print things quickly. I also like that it is really good for bulk printing, because that is just what I need. At my business, we need flyers and posters printed all the time in large quantities, so it would be really nice to have something fast that still printed nicely. Do you know how I can find a printer that uses digital printing?

I love your commentary on cost consciousness. As a small business owner, I think that I would only need mass printing services every so often. The thing I would use it for most would be for business cards and other places of printing my company logo on.
