PostHeaderIcon 5 On-Page SEO Techniques That Will Increase Your Rankings

On Page SEO TechniquesOn-page SEO is one of the important factors to increase your website’s rank. Not only that, if you are running internet marketing campaigns, on-page SEO will increase your chance for success.

Well, the campaign came from the website and if your website is well optimized both for users and search engines, your chance of success will be in the maximum stage.

Now, what is on-page SEO?
And, what’s the relation with off-page SEO?

I know, there are many webmasters who familiar with these basic things, but it’s not work for the beginners.

In order for us to be in the same circle of knowledge, I will give a simple explanation about the on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

  • On-page SEO >> This is ‘must be done’ settings that you apply on your website. The goal is to improve the quality of your website.
  • Off-page SEO >> These techniques are used outside the boundaries of your website. It could be said, the reverse of on-page SEO.

Which Is More Important: On-Page SEO or Off-Page SEO?

In general, of course you need both if you want to successfully attract the attention both for users and search engines as well.

However, I personally feel that on-page SEO is more important for several reasons and I will explain why:

  • All about user >> The main purpose to create a website is to make your readers happy, right? Then, On-Page SEO will make your website become more user friendly.
  • You just need On-Page SEO for some cases >> If you are using website for business and want to get customers through the search results, you need on-page SEO then.
  • Many websites in misconceptions >> Recent updates require the webmaster to create a website to be as user friendly as possible. And indirectly, change their concept about SEO. On-page SEO will make your website more friendly with it’s users and increase your website traffic as well.
  • On-Page SEO first, then Off-Page SEO >> You need to make sure your website is in the best condition before you promote it. Therefore, you must do the on-page SEO first.

For these reasons, now I will discuss about on-page SEO. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to discuss about off-page SEO, here my post about off-page SEO techniques. I hope you can get something useful out of it! 😉

So, let’s get started!
Here it is 5 on-page SEO techniques that will make your website get better rankings:

1. Good Content

SEO and Good ContentGood content is the first thing you should have. Great content will make your website doing great even without SEO, and it will become more powerful with the right SEO.

So, what factors are considered as a good content?

Here are some factors that are considered as a good content:

  • Original Content >> Content that was never published in other places.
  • Useful content >> Every content you publish must have added value to your readers. For better results, try creating good content for readers and search engines as well. The point is to make your readers become smarter with your content.

2. Page Titles and Description

This is also the important things that you need to apply. Search engines will read the whole aspect of your website, including the page title, description and images.

They do that to be able to understand your website.

  • Page titles >> The title of your article should be interesting and charming. Interesting means it can help your readers in some things and search engines can understand what are you talking about. Post with a good title had a great effect for your traffic as well.

  • Descriptions >> You have to convince the searcher to click on your posts by create a description that really descriptive. It’s like you advertise your posts to the searcher. With a good description, traffic and your rankings will increase for sure.

Forgive me for not discussing in depth about it.

If you want to know more about the page titles and the description, two things that can bring a lot of traffic and improve your rankings, I know a post that discusses in depth about it. You can go directly to the post (link will open in a new tab).

3. URL Structure

One important part of on-page SEO is URL structure. Therefore, you must know how to make a good URL structure.

We all know that since the new algorithm came, it changed a few things about SEO, including the structure of URL.

Your URL should be long and have a meaning, and I suggest, you put your post title as your URL by adding (-) between the words.

I’ll give an example:

The good URL

4. Build Your Internal Links

Internal LinkingThere are several reasons that make internal links are important SEO techniques. I will explain why:

  • A way to build your own website >> Recently, I watched a nice tutorial from Google on how search works. It’s clearly explained that the first thing search engine spider will do is they follow the links that exist in your post. It could be a chance for you to give a good impression on Google by providing quality links that have not been exposed from your website.
  • A way to pin point your most important posts >> Mark your most important posts by giving them more internal links. Search engines will frequently visit your posts.
  • A way to enhance the time of visit on your website >> If you provide the appropriate internal links on a post, a chance visitor to click on that link is quite high. Two things that you will get are increase the number of visited pages by visitors and increase the time they spend on your website. It was like throw once, hit two birds, right?

Some tips you need to know about the internal linking:

  • Use many kind of keywords for internal links.
  • Only add useful internal links for your readers.
  • Do not use more than 4-5 internal links per page. Use internal links wisely (This is just my opinion and not a research. In fact, it depends on your needs).

5. Website Speed and Google Authorship

To attract good impression of Google on your website and increase visitor satisfaction as well, authorship and website speed are very important for you.

  • Website Speed >> Google made one of these factors into consideration to increase your website’s rank. Logically, if a visitor using Google to arrive at your site and the speed of your site is good, visitors will feel satisfied. This satisfaction will also affect for Google because it can provides good search results for its users. Therefore, from now on you have to keep an eye on your website speed.
If you want to know more details about how to increase your website speed, I have a friend who discusses it in great details. You can reach her post here (link will open in a new tab).
  • Google Authorship >> Google likes sites and writers who have authority. Google authorship is one way for Google to determine the authority of a website. It connects your content with your profile in Google+. Then, your ranking may change depending on the people who follow you and how many followers you have.

That’s it! Some of the on-page SEO techniques that can bring your website to get a better ranking.

Actually, there are many techniques for on-page SEO, but now in this article, I just explain some vital techniques that you should apply to your website today.

Then, do you know the other on-page SEO techniques?
What else on-page SEO techniques that you have applied on your website?

  • Hi Nanda,

Some really relevant and crucial factors being discussed here. Went through it and came to the conclusion that you have covered some topics that can influence SEO score of a blog to a great extent.

Good to see that you started off with content on #1 spot! Well, content is the king after all. As long as the content is good, things will run smoothly. If the king is not well, out best efforts may also go in waste, down the drain!

URL structure is also one such basic thing that many newbies tend to make mistakes with. They, not realizing url’s importance, go on with the default ones! I’ve happened to see that many times.

A resourceful post for new comers, I would say! Keep writing. 🙂

    • Hi Arun,

Yes, that’s why I put good content in the first place. Because it rightly so important. That’s a good analogy. I like your analogy 🙂

You are right. URL structure is very important to get our attention. I discovered that every good blog has a URL that reflects the title of the article, I share it because I feel it needs to be known by the others.

Glad to know this post useful for you, Arun.
And, thanks for your support 🙂

  • I’m tired of hearing that SEO is all about creating “good content”. A very ambiguous and nebulous statement that is akin to snake oil. Content doesn’t mean just words, or infographics, or widgets, but can be a mixture of all three. “Good content” is well-researched to match the audiences’ needs, solves their problem or incites a discussion. Last but not least, promotion strategy is as equally important as the actual content generation. Knowing who you are going to outreach — and even doing it before you’ve invested heavily into your content — is key to driving an effective SEO campaign.

    • Hi,

Thanks for the comment and welcome to my blog 🙂

Yes, you’re completely right. Indeed, that is said to be a good content. Good content should suit the needs of your readers. Like I said in this article, if you can make the reader become smarter with your content, then you are on the right path.

    Hey Nanda,

Ah, if that were only all there were to it my friend. I’m doing all that you’ve suggested here but my SEO isn’t all that great. Of course I’ve learned recently that it’s not just about keywords anymore and of course things like you shared here with the website speed and even have Google Authorship in place have been added to the mix. I’ve been doing my best to keep up with all of this stuff.

I do need to work more on my keywords in my posts because although I’ve been doing the rest that’s totally been neglected so shame on me.

Thanks for pointing these out though and I’m sure more will be added to the mix as time progresses.

    Hey Nanda

I visited through Ensitne Mukhi blog and here comes one conclusion, Do your prefer article title | Site Title ?
Is this is good for your blog on onpage SEO ?
I tried to remove that site title from my blog and still not yet did. Can you tell me is it good or bad against SEO?

Everything was well written, but just had a this questions so been posted by me here.

Suresh recommend you to read >> How to Make a Video With Photos Using Windows Movie MakerMy Profile

    • Hi Suresh,

Glad to know you came through Enstine’s blog.
Enstine Muki is a great blogger and I learned a lot from him 🙂

      That’s a great question, Suresh.
Well, honestly, I don’t know the definitive answer for your question. Actually I also often ask the same question. I tried to find the answer from some other resources, but, I don’t have the answer yet.

Because of that, some time ago I did a test using the article title | site title, and see what happens. It’s like a trial and error I guess 😉

And I think you don’t need to worry about that. As long as you can provide good content to your readers, and your readers can get benefits from your blog, it’s not a problem anymore 🙂

Because I feel that people are reading my blog and share it on their social media accounts, although I still use the article title | site title.

If your readers can do that, then Google would not miss it as well. Google will see our site is worthy to be considered.

Get the reader’s heart first, then you will get Google for sure 😉

Thanks for stopping by and share your critical question, Suresh.
I learned a lot from your questions as well.

    Hi Nanda,

In on page seo we should give more priority to content. Because, quality content is most important to rank better on the SERPs. Those days are gone when people try to play smart with search engines by putting duplicate content on their site or blog.

Now days, google and other search engines more are strict about their algorithm. So, write for your audience not for search engines. If people loves your content then search engines will also love your content.

I am not here to play smart on this comment. But always try to learn some thing new (even from my little sister) and love to share my knowledge.

Anyway, very useful article you shared with us. Keep it up bro!
